Wayne Smith (Drums, Guitar)
Wayne is the owner and founder of Life Beat Music Academy. He is a drummer and also teaches guitar. Wayne has more than 15 years of teaching experience. His exposure and years of work at big productions like Skouspel and Miss South Africa ensures that he understands the entertainment and music industry well. Wayne has been a drummer at Unite180 church for 8+ years, he also played drums for the Tuks Kamarate Choir, and has played many gigs in the secular industry. Wayne is passionate about teaching because he believes that a music teacher is more than just a teacher, a music teacher provides council, supports and builds the confidence of students. Wayne is a dad of 4 and enjoys the outdoors and good coffee!
Nikita van Zyl (Vocals, Piano)
Nikita has been singing over 13 years. She studied singing, acting, dancing and musical theatre at the Waterfront Theatre College in Cape Town. Nikita then went on to study pop and rock music through the Campus of Performing Arts and also gained her Trinity London Certificate in Advanced Performance. Nikita has trained with the likes of Malie Kelly and has been involved in multiple choirs and competitions. Nikita enjoys teaching vocals and piano because she is passionate about sharing the knowledge, she has gained over the past 13 years. Nikita particularly enjoys working with children and spending time with her loved ones.
Joshua’s music journey began at just eight years old. By the age of ten he was already performing in church where his love for rhythm and live performance grew into a lifelong passion. In addition to playing live he works as a session drummer and teacher, guiding students from beginner to advanced levels. He is also an active content creator, producing drum covers and original material that showcase both his technical skill and creative flair. For Joshua, the drums are more than an instrument they are the heartbeat of music. His mission is to inspire others and to prove that with persistance anything is possible. Joshua’s knack for surprises shows in his surprising talent, tying a cherry stem with his tongue, blending the same focus and fun he applies to his music.
Kenny has been playing the violin since he was 7 years old. He can play all four orchestral strings and started playing the piano at the age of 14. Kenny has played in multiple orchestras and has experience composing music for stage, film and television. He loves music because it feels magical and can reach the deepest parts of your soul. Teaching music enriches his life as he is in the position to pass on the experience of music to a younger generation. Kenny is passionate about languages and is always learning new things about languages, for this reason he appreciates music as he believes it is the only universal language that every person on earth can understand.
Gerhardt is a versatile musician who has been mastering drums and guitar since 2002. He began his musical journey in church at the age of 13 and started teaching at 17. His passion for music led him to study drums at COPA. Gerhardt's experience spans in various genres from rock to country, which he explored as part of numerous bands. To Gerhardt, music is not just a combination of sounds and rhythms, it's a language that understands him like no other. It provides soluce, strength and a means to express himself when words fail. For him, music is the very essence of his existence. Watching students light up with excitement as they delve deeper into the world of music brings him immense joy. Gerhardt can't grow a full beard and at this point he doesn't want to anymore.
Gerard’s musical journey began in 2013, quickly becoming his driving passion throughout high school. He believes this gift was given to him to use instruments to praise and worship, a space where he feels closest to God. Today, he continues to live out that calling by playing weekly in his church band and inspiring his students with his love for music. Gerard brings that same joy, energy and heart to every lesson, finding it deeply fulfilling to help students discover and nurture their own love for music. When he’s not in the classroom or on stage, Gerard is chasing thrills, whether it’s tackling rugged trails in his 4x4 or racing down the road on his bike, adventure is his middle name!
